After my sketchbook image, this was the first piece using the Sanctuary image derived from Giotto’s Arena Chapel painting “The Visitation of St. Anna. I took Giotto’s one point perspective and converted it tow two point perspective. In some paintings later (derived from Sasetta) I did weird things with the “VP” to mimic the almost correct perspective of the Gothic painters. I thought that my interest in the earlier painters was in pard due to my recognition their similarity to modernism (ie a flattened picture plane.
